Frequently asked questions
What everyone asks
What is CERT and what is it for?
CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that prepares people, organizations and communities to act safely and in an organized way during emergencies and disasters, while professional help arrives.
Who can be trained in a CERT program?
Anyone interested in learning to respond to emergencies. It can be implemented in schools, institutions, communities, social organizations and any group that wants to strengthen its prevention and response capacities.
What do you learn during a CERT training?
Basic knowledge and skills to act during emergencies: safety, first aid, risk prevention, community organization, basic search and rescue, and support during an emergency.
What are the benefits of having a CERT team?
It means being better prepared, acting in an organized way and reducing risks while professional help arrives. It also strengthens the group’s prevention, collaboration and resilience capacities.
Does CERT replace professional response teams?
No. CERT does not replace firefighters, health services, police or other professional teams. Its role is to provide an organized, safe first response and to help within its capacities until specialized teams arrive.
